Architectural Design Studio 1


Project 1:Self-Expression through Objects

Task
An ice-breaking design project which helps the students to know the basic methods of generating of ideas through self exploration.Students are required to produce an artwork or a performance to represent themselves and present it in front of the class.

Explanation of My Model
In this project, I had made a model which had a body with a skull that tried hard to escape from the box with few strips.Inside the skull, there was fire. It means that I am a person which has empty life and try hard to escape the current situation to seek for freedom and meaningful life.

Reflection
Through this project, i am able to translate myself into abstract artwork. To create the model, I had to think about myself and thus I get to know more about myself. Besides that, I also learnt about the importance of knowing your client in generating the ideas of a design.


Project 2:Self-Expression through Architectural Space

Task
In this project, students will be grouped in a three person group to design an installation  with the scale 1:1. The aims of this project is to introduce the basic design principles such as rudimentary ways in which to order and organize spaces and forms to the students.

Explanation of the Model
The similarities of our design within a group are the characteristics of us and void within the area we choose in the exercise. The quality of space in the model is secure which is shown through the cave-liked model and the sharp edge at the entrance. The people who gets inside feels safe and sound and that's why we created this model.

Reflection
I am able to identify the basic design principles in space and form and these principles helped me in my future design. Besides that, I also learnt that the role of proportion and scale in designing a space for a human. I gained a lot of knowledge through looking into the case studies to produce a comfort zone for one or more person.


Final Project: Space for the Self(MY CITY DREAM SPACE)

Task
In this project, students are required to design a hideout for themselves in the selected movie: Fifth Element, Ghost in the Shell, Tron the Legacy, Blade Runner.For task 1, Students will be grouped in a 5 person group to produce the buildings in the scale 1:50 in the scene selected by themselves. For task 2 and 3, students are required to design a hideout regarding their personalities. The students should focus on the spatial quality when they do they design.

Explanation of the Design
The shape of my model has show the  futuristic characteristic.My design is related to the characteristics of the character I created in the movie " Tron the Legacy", which are aggressive, justice, loyal, responsible and also straight forward. My final decision is making a touch-liked plan model which can related to all of my characteristics.

Reflection
Through this project, I had learnt to design and produce a space to express my idea that related and suit the character I created. Besides that, I am able to identify and apply the design principles in designing the quality space within the model I created. Furthermore, I also learnt about the application of materials can determine the experience of the space produced.
